Just say "no"

Tomorrow is election day across Ohio. Government again wants more of your money.

Let's increase your real estate taxes. Let's increase your sales taxes. Just give us more.

Here are two bad ideas we are being asked to support locally.

First bad idea-

In my township we are being asked to pay for the construction of a $72 million community and athletic center. Let's build during supply chain interruptions and sky high material and labor costs.

Not only do we get to pay for the construction, we also will have to pay to use the facility. Monthly paid memberships are required before you can swim, run or commune with your neighbors.

That arrangement of paying to workout sounds a lot like 101 other private gyms within 10-miles of home. Somehow they all manage to get by without needing taxpayer money to open and survive.

Second bad idea-

Our local transit authority (a fancy name for mostly empty busses) wants to change its funding mechanism from real estate taxes to sales taxes. They are asking for a 1/2% increase in the local sales tax from 7.25% to 7.75%.

The transit authority even has the nerve to tell us this will cost us less. How then will their projected revenue double over current receipts if the levy passes?

Enough is enough. It's time to just say No.
